What Is a Funscript? A Plain-English Guide

A funscript is a small text file that tells an interactive toy where to move, and when, so its motion matches a video. The file ends in .funscript and sits next to the video it was made for.

How a funscript works

A funscript is a list of points. Each point has a time in milliseconds and a position from 0 to 100. On a stroker, 0 is the bottom of the stroke and 100 is the top.

A player app reads the list while the video plays. At each point, it tells your device to move to that position. Here is a tiny script:

{
  "actions": [
    { "at": 1000, "pos": 0 },
    { "at": 1500, "pos": 100 },
    { "at": 2000, "pos": 0 }
  ]
}

One second into the video, the device is at the bottom. Half a second later it is at the top, and half a second after that it is back at the bottom. A real script has thousands of points like these. The file format guide explains every field.

Where funscripts come from

People called scripters make funscripts. They watch the video and mark the top and bottom of each motion, by hand or with tools that track motion for them. Our guide on how to make a funscript shows how.

The format goes back to the Fleshlight Launch. Launchcontrol, an early player for the Launch, shipped a Blender add-on for making funscripts in July 2017, and ScriptPlayer's wiki also says the format was made for the Launch.

Free and paid funscripts

Funscripted lists more than 1,800 scripts from independent creators, and more than 130 of them are free. Paid scripts are a one-time purchase. There is no subscription, and creators keep up to 90% of each sale.

Every script on Funscripted is a standard .funscript file that works with the players and devices in our guides.

Frequently asked questions

What does a funscript file contain?

It is a JSON file with a list called actions. Each action has a time in milliseconds (at) and a position from 0 to 100 (pos). Some files also hold details such as the title, the creator and tags.

Is a funscript a video?

No. A funscript holds no picture or sound. It only holds timing and positions, so you also need the video it was made for.

Does a funscript work with any video?

No. Each funscript is timed to one exact video. A different cut of the same scene, or a copy with a longer intro, will be out of sync.

Which devices can play funscripts?

Strokers such as The Handy, the Kiiroo Keon and the Autoblow AI Ultra, stroker robots such as the OSR2 and SR6, and many vibrators through players like Intiface Central and MultiFunPlayer.

How do I open a .funscript file?

Load it in a player such as Handyverse, MultiFunPlayer or ScriptPlayer, next to its video. It is plain text, so any text editor can also open it.

Are funscripts free?

Many are. On Funscripted, more than 130 scripts are free, and paid scripts are a one-time purchase with no subscription.
